Project Codename: BURST

Most people in our generation have the same addiciton: driving cars. It is something that we do without thinking; a habit that it seems we cannot control. We don't care about the consequences, even though most of us are aware of the damages that car emissions have on our environment.

In this century, it is part of our culture to drive cars on a day-to-day basis. However, it is not always necessary to drive 2 km to pick up a few items at the nearest grocery store. It is the human mindset to get from one place to another as easily as possible, which is why cars are so often the chosen mode of transport. Not many people know that 2.5 Liters of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and fine particles are emitted every time the ignition is started. If you think about how many times you start your car in one week, the number multiplies quickly. No one notices this because CO2 is silent–which it what makes it so easy for us to ignore its presence.

We have formed a plan that will make CO2 noticeable. All you need to do is print out the attached pdf and follow the instructions. You will attach a black balloon to the exhaust pipe of a car and tie the printed out info card to the exhaust pipe as well. When the driver starts the car, there will be a loud POP! and they should immediatly check to see what happened. They will find the card, which declares them a "CO2 ADDICT" and provides a link to the ethify website and facebook page. Hopefully this will inspire them to learn more about the ethics of driving a car. The card can then be flipped around and attached to a bicycle, exclaiming, "I'M CLEAN" to all that pass by.

Most distances a car is used for can easily be reached by bike. We want people to think about their habits and make a change. The best way to do this is to grab the attention of drivers and provide them with an easy way to promote bicycling. Join our mission and let's shock the public into realizing the impact cars have on the environment!
