Before the Flood is the three-year documentary produced by not only Leonardo DiCaprio, but also Martin Scorsese and Fisher Stevens. Co-creator and director, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Fisher Stevens embarked on an incredible journey to uncover the ugly truth about our planet's climate. Discovering new found evidence in every corner, the two men exposed the question: Will mankind posses the capability of undoing their wrongs, or will all humanity perish due to the sixth mass extinction on this planet?

This film illustrates the interconnectedness of our world and encourages audiences, everywhere, to understand where the breaking point of human consumption lies.

Plastic Paradise

The 20th century was shaped by a new world of cheap, convenient and disposable products. The lead, takes certainly the material called plastic. Scientists invented it and presented it as a perfect creation, because its indestructible. Particularly, it served the American army in the world war 2, when 85% of the plastic production was made for the military.

Nowadays you are often confronted with terms like “plastic islands” in the ocean. Nobody knows how they look like nor where they are – but does this problem even exist?

Was bedeutet Ethik?

Was wäre ein Leben, ohne Moral?

The Human Experiment

„We all heve the power to influence the terms of our mortality. We can speed up the course oft he inevitable. Some of us smoke or drink. We fly in airplanes, drive cars. We may decide to surf big waves or to take up base jumping as a hobby. It´s called  „risk.“ We calculate the odds and make a deal with destiny. But what about the risks that are hidden from us?“

Wall-E about our, not so unrealistic, future

The movie takes place about 700 years in the future, where mankind has left the world behind. A world completly covered with trash from products sold by a big international company called Buy N Large coorperation. Every human left is now living on a big Spaceship waiting for the world to "recover". They all have become extremly fat by only sitting in big hovering chairs and comunicating or watching TV with a screen right in front of their faces. Furthermore they drink their meal through a Straw. Over the generations their bodies really suffered from this trend, in fact, many of their bones began to disconnect and shrink, and so they can barely move anymore.

The Rise of the Creative Class

Richard Florida explains the key forces that have been transforming the American economy and culture over the past several decades.

Beneath the surface, the rise of creativity as a fundamental economic force also created the rise of a new social class: The Creative Class spanning across all realms of science and technology, art and media. Artists have created an entirely new way of how we live, work, consume and extend into the rhythms, patterns and desires of our governed daily lives.

Degrowth - A Vocabulary for a New Era

CC-by-sa ethify.org & rasos

"We live in an era of stagnation, rapid impoverishment, rising inequalities and socio-ecological disasters. In the dominant discourse, these are effects of economic crisis, lack of growth or underdevelopment. This book argues that growth is the cause of these problems and that it has become uneconomic, ecologically unsustainable and intrinsically unjust."

This book is a valuable contribution to the academic discussion to design an economic system without the need for growth. ‘Simplicity’ is very closely connected to ‘conviviality’ and has an effect on the way we are living. Several aspects are being touched in 51 chapters, among them: Anti-utilitarianism, Care, Commodification, Commons, Depoliticization, Happines, Disobedience, Urban gardening, Buen Vivir or Ubuntu.
